Starting Therapy
This page outlines what to expect when starting psychotherapy with me in Central London or online.
Introductory therapy meeting
Our first meeting together is an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy, and allows us to get a sense for how it might be to work together. There is space in the days afterwards to reflect before proceeding to a course of therapy. This is a fifty minute appointment and the fee is the same as my regular session rate.
If you would like to speak on the phone before arranging an introductory therapy session, I am happy to schedule a 15-minute call.
Length and frequency of therapy
I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy. While we may agree a notional length to our work at the start, this can be revisited at any time. Normally I would suggest meeting for six appointments to begin with and then for us to use the therapeutic space to reflect on where we want to go from there
Appointments are weekly and last fifty minutes. Typically I do not see clients fortnightly at the outset, but it may be possible to meet less frequently at a later stage in our work together.
Availability
I currently have availability for new online clients.
Location
I practice in Central London at The Bloomsbury Therapy Centre (Bristol House, 80A Southampton Row, London WC1B 4BA). The centre is within easy walking distance of a number of stations, with Holborn Underground Station being just a 3-5 minute walk away.
The Bloomsbury Therapy Centre is located on the ground floor of Bristol House. Unfortunately, although the centre is located on the ground floor, it is a up a couple of steps once inside the main building and is therefore not wheelchair accessible.
Fees
£75-90 per fifty minute session.
I have a number of reduced rate places for those on limited income.
I review my fees each year and typically provide six months notice to my existing clients if my rates are to increase.
General terms for individual psychotherapy
The one page PDF below (click icon to download) outlines and expands on: the framework for my work with clients, fees, cancellation and holiday policies, confidentiality, data protection and ethics. Normally we would both sign this document to indicate our mutual agreement regarding the general terms therein, as well as your consent with respect to my holding your data, as detailed in my privacy policy. Starting weekly work together also indicates mutual agreement and consent.

Urgent help
I offer counselling and psychotherapy by appointment only. If you need someone to speak to now, Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year (call 116 123).
If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 or go to A&E now; or if you need help urgently for your mental health, but it’s not an emergency, call the NHS on 111.
