Introductory therapy meeting

Normally you will be asked to come for a no-obligation introductory meeting before starting a course of psychotherapy. This introductory meeting is an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy and allows us to get a sense for how it might be to work together.  If we proceed to regular therapy sessions together, then we will typically meet weekly at the same time.

Length and frequency of therapy

I offer both short-term (around 10 weeks) and open-ended therapy (up to three years). While we may agree a notional length to our work at the start, this can be revisited at any time. Appointments are weekly and last fifty minutes. This fifty minute session also includes any scheduling we may need to do for future appointments. Typically I do not see clients fortnightly at the outset, but it may be possible to meet less frequently at a later stage in our work together.

I currently offer online appointments via Zoom on Thursdays, and in-person in Central London on a Monday. I currently have availability for new in-person and online clients.

I practice in Central London at The Bloomsbury Therapy Centre (Bristol House, 80A Southampton Row, London WC1B 4BA). The centre is within easy walking distance of a number of stations, with Holborn Underground Station being just a 3 minute walk away.

The Bloomsbury Therapy Centre is located on the ground floor of Bristol House, which is accessed through an entrance between The Paper Shop (to the left) and Mauve Holborn Kitchen (to the right).

Unfortunately, although the centre is located on the ground floor, it is a up a couple of steps once inside the main building and is therefore not wheelchair accessible.

I also offer online appointments and these are usually on a Thursday.

Online: £65 per fifty minute session.

In-person: £85 per fifty minute session.

I review my fees in March each year and typically provide six months notice to my existing clients if my rates are to increase.

Payment is usually made by bank transfer.

General terms for individual psychotherapy

The one page PDF below (click icon to download) outlines and expands on: the framework for my work with clients, fees, cancellation and holiday policies, confidentiality, data protection and ethics. Normally we would both sign this document to indicate our mutual agreement regarding the general terms therein, as well as your consent with respect to my holding your data, as detailed in my privacy policy. Starting weekly work together also indicates mutual agreement and consent.

Covid 19

I have introduced a number of measures to help protect us both during the Covid pandemic. For instance, I open my consultation room window wide and sterilise solid surfaces like door knobs, arm rests and table tops between appointments . I also leave the consultation room window slightly open during sessions to support ventilation.

I currently allow 15 minutes to air the room and clean surfaces between clients, and I may expand this interval as we go deeper into the winter.

My cancellation fee (please see general terms document above) does not apply if appointments are cancelled because you need to isolate, test positive for Covid, or develop coronavirus symptoms.
